SIDIT Success Story

Loose Bay Campground Society, Oliver, BC: Loose Bay Campground Water Line Project $23,000 Grant

From Grant Recipient:

Your generous donation and gift of water to the campground continues to bring joy to our many campers. The death of Greg Norton created a void that is hard to fill but chairperson Allan Patton and the other directors have every confidence in our manager.

Use of the campground continues to fluctuate with the crops and peaks at St. Jean Batiste Day/week in June at about 150 campers. Access to legal and illegal camping is disappearing and more homeless are using the campground from May to October.

Improvements this year include an outdoor free solar heated shower using funds from donations in memory of Greg. The entranceway was rebuilt with a stone wall, fence repair and a memorial flagpole in Greg’s honour. Donation funds were also used for more picnic tables at the campsites and an outdoor sink at Lions Park for visitor use.

Repair of the shade cabanas and construction of four more continues to be on next year’s list. So much depends on whether Fortis has reject poles and volunteers have time!
