Education Awards Program - Students in Southern Interior share $6.7 million
Over the past eight years, students from communities across the Southern Interior of B.C. who entered a wide range of trades, technology and academic programs at Southern Interior Universities and Colleges received financial support in the form of scholarships and bursaries. $6.7 million for Post-Secondary Trades and Technology Awards and for dual credit Secondary School Awards has already been disbursed.
In addition to the above, a $990,000 fund supporting research, innovation and entrepreneurship was jointly established by SIDIT and the BC Innovation Council, who contributed $495,000 each. The SIDIT/BCIC programs support students, faculty, post-secondary institutions, industry organizations and companies involved in the areas of technology innovation, research, development and commercialization.
In 2020, the SIDIT Board of Directors approved a further $250,000 investment into the education awards program for 2020-2021. These funds will be adjudicated and disbursed by University of British Columbia Okanagan, Thompson Rivers University, Okanagan College, College of the Rockies, Selkirk College and Nicola Valley Institute of Technology . With a strong focus on trades and technology, sciences, engineering entrepreneurship and innovation, SIDIT's investment in education will continue to have a major effect in attracting students into programs key to the economic success of the Southern Interior.
