Annual General Meeting

SIDIT third annual General Meeting was held at the Coast Capri Hotel, Kelowna on June 24, 2009.  The meeting was open to the public and individuals used the opportunity to engage the Board in discussions.

SIDIT Fiscal 2009 Annual Report is now available.  A copy of the report can be downloaded from the SIDIT website – www.sidit-bc.ca/documents.html

Highlights of the year include funding commitments of $14,000,000.

Appreciation Luncheon

SIDIT held its first Appreciation Luncheon for past and present Board Members.  This was held on the same day as the Annual General Meeting.
Many thanks once again to all the Board for their outstanding support and patience as the process evolved to what SIDIT is today.

Recent Project Announcements

Pryme Group Imagery Inc., Kelowna - Financing April 2009.

Pryme Group Imagery Inc. manufactures and distributes canvas giclée artwork reproductions for the fine art and memorabilia industries.  By definition giclée, a term coined in the 1990’s, refers to the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing.  Canvas giclée is used in the fine art industry to create additional revenue by reproducing successful original works and marketing them in limited editions. 

Pryme Group Imagery Inc describes itself as a profitable, growing company with cutting-edge proprietary image processes; a building collection of original artworks; a growing and established position in memorabilia sales; substantive technical expertise; and experienced.

Grants

Friends of Fort Steele Society, Fort Steele - Grant $20,000

This project provided funding to develop a Heritage Trades Cooperative for 4 trade areas – Blacksmith, Harness Maker, Tinsmith and Textile production and create a Marketing Cooperative to market and sell authentic heritage and contemporary wares both on-site and on-line.  Marketing costs include set-up and construction of a Fort Steele On-line Product catalogue for on-line sales. Renovation of 2 buildings on site to accommodate heritage trades production/retail/rental shops and an ice-cream parlour/soda shop was also included.

Hon. Bill Bennett, Minister of Community and Rural Development

Bill Bennett was re-elected as MLA for Kootenay East on May 12, 2009.

He previously served as Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts since June 23, 2008.  In 2007 he became chair of the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services, a member of the Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth, and chair of the BC Outdoor Caucus.  He previously served as minister of state for mining.

Before being elected, Minister Bennett was a partner in a Cranbrook law firm.  In 1976, he earned an honours degree in English from the University of Guelph and in 1992 a law degree from Queen’s University.

Upcoming Events

SIDIT’s next regular Board meeting is scheduled for the afternoon of Sept 26, 2009.  An orientation meeting for new board members will be held in the morning of Sept 26, 2009.  The annual Strategic Plan workshop will be held Sept 27, 2009.  All of these meeting will be held at the Morris J. Wosk Centre, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver.
